What is a DNS Leak?
A DNS leak occurs when your DNS queries - the domains you visit - escape outside your VPN tunnel and reach your ISP or other third parties. Even though you are using a VPN, someone may be able to monitor which websites you visit.
How to fix a DNS leak?
- - Use a VPN with built-in DNS leak protection
- - Configure DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) in your browser
- - Use trusted DNS servers (Cloudflare 1.1.1.1, Quad9 9.9.9.9)
- - Check the DNS settings of your operating system
DNS leaks and IP leaks are different ways a VPN connection can expose information. If you want to see which IP and location you're currently showing, try our IP checker, or see whether your browser is leaking your real IP via WebRTC with our WebRTC Leak Test.
