What Is Cryptographic Key?
A string of data used by an encryption algorithm to lock (encrypt) or unlock (decrypt) information, such as a password or file.
A cryptographic key is the "secret parameter" an encryption algorithm uses to convert data into unreadable form and back. The key length (e.g. 256-bit) largely determines how hard the encryption is to break via brute force.
